Help to Reach Our Goals
We must learn to re-train our brains from “should of, could of.
Should, could, can be replace to want and why; let me explain …
Considering the English language there are times when this will be impossible but for our intent and purposes let us try.
When you say to yourself: “I should really go see my friend” This thought comes to you because you have not seen your friend in a while. When you use the word should you automatically place a sense of obligation and guilt on yourself – why do that to yourself?
Instead replace the ‘should, to ‘want’; “I want to go see my friend”, is this statement true? Was there a reason you had not gone to see your friend? Do I really want to go see my friend? That is the real underlying question you must ask yourself.
When we use the word should we usually have an underlying question we are not asking ourselves and therefore placing blame on our action.
Placing unnecessary blame on ourselves can be auto-destructive. The could have – you didn’t and there must have been a reason for that action, therefore instead of making the statement I could have ask rather I did not chose to at that time, why? Thus, removing all blame and guilt on yourself.
So stop beating yourself up and poisoning your brains with guilt and blame! Be real with yourself and ask the real questions instead of hiding under guilt.
